***I originally posted this on medium while my website was still in the works. This is the only political post I’ll ever write and to be honest I’d consider it pseudo-political at that. Anyway enjoy…***
Before we get started just wanted to make this clear that this is NOT a political endorsement. Who I (or you) plan to vote for is none of anyone else’s business yet it seems to be the topic of discussion EVERYWHERE! This is instead an observation of the current political state of affairs.
I open with this series of questions:
Who writes the laws in this country? Who represents the people of this country? Who controls how the tax money is spent in this country? Who determines how the government runs in this country? Who lives like they are above the laws of this country?
Now I’m not the smartest person in the world but I’m pretty sure the answer to all of those questions is “Politicians.” Politicians, for the most part, control how this country has grown and developed over the course of the last 50+ years. With that being said Politicians are largely responsible for the US as it stands today. Now if you don’t understand/believe that, then there’s a much bigger problem at hand than who the next president may be.
Enter Donald Trump a Non-politician. Say what you will about him, and people say A LOT, but that in and of itself makes him an attractive possibility. It also places a large target on his back. If we were to think of Politicians as the people that get shitfaced drunk at a party. Trump is that one person that goes to the party but doesn’t drink. Nobody likes that fucking guy because he knows all the stupid stuff you did but can’t remember.
Politicians know it and it scares the shit out of them. Trump isn’t one of the guys he’s an outsider with the potential to shake things up. Why do you think that EVERYONE hates him so much? It’s not a coincidence and it’s not people uniting against evil or someone that’s going to destroy this country. It’s people that don’t want the status quo to shift. Politicians have been quite comfy in their ivory towers but there’s a VERY real possibility that that lifestyle may come to an end.
Now there are a lot of people that are supporting Trump for the wrong reasons. But, I’d like to think there’s an equal if not greater amount of people that support Trump for this reason: “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” According to the internet that’s an Einstein quote and, whether he actually said that or not, it raises a valid argument. I invite you to exchange the word “thinking” with the word “people” and consider THAT statement.
You see Politicians, through actions and inactions, created a lot of the problems that we face today within our country. How is it that we expect Politicians to fix those problems? In my opinion they can’t. Realistically the only way to truly FIX this country is to take the very people ruining the country out of positions of power. I’m not a history buff but I’m pretty sure that “career politicians” wasn’t meant to be a thing. Politicians are supposed to be ordinary people like you and I that live within this country. That take the time out of their normal lives to represent the people they live and work with everyday. They shouldn’t be an elite group of people that are disconnected from the people they are “supposed” to be looking out for.
Now with all that being said, I know that Trump isn’t exactly connected with the people any better but what he represents is the original governing power of the US, “the people.” People that have their own jobs and career paths who take the time out of their lives to shape the future of America. So next time you see something about Trump on TV or the internet realize that what is happening before your eyes is potentially a shift in power. Whether he wins or not the presidential race is of no importance. What’s important is that this moment in history encourages more non-politicians to get involved and make things happen. Not as a career move but as a way to impact the direction of America for the greater good.
It’s been a long time since America has had a government of the people, by the people, for the people. It might just be about time to start getting back to that. Until next time friends…
